The United States Coast Guard evacuated an 87-year-old woman last Monday, October 24 at approximately 2 a.m. from Miami-based Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Imagination cruise ship. At the time of the rescue, the ship was approximately 58 miles northwest of San Diego. The victim needed immediate medical attention for a head injury she sustained when she fell after experiencing seizures.

According to Coast Guard officials, a Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was sent to the vessel to airlift the victim. She was safely hoisted into the helicopter about an hour after the helicopter was sent to pick her up. An ambulance that was waiting at the Coast Guard headquarters on North Harbor Drive transported the woman to a nearby hospital.
